Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB., December 18, 2014 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today are pleased to announce the club has extended the contract of quarterback Josh Portis. The extension keeps Portis in Blue and Gold through the 2016 season. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February.
Portis was acquired in a trade with Toronto last July. He dressed in the final three games of 2014 for the Bombers.
"We believe Josh has tremendous upside as a mobile quarterback in our league," said Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters. "He works hard at practice and in the film room every day, and he's a player we wanted to keep in our organization moving forward. The ability to have multiple options at the quarterback position, that you can truly feel comfortable with, is invaluable, and as Josh continues to grow, he would definitely fall into that category."
Prior to joining the Argos in 2013, Portis spent the 2012 season with the Seattle Seahawks as their third-string quarterback. He also spent time on their practice roster.
