FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (Thursday, December 18, 2014) - FC Edmonton announces today that it has come to an agreement with goalkeeper Matt Van Oekel. The terms of the deal are not disclosed as per club policy and will be pending international transfer clearance.

"I'm delighted that we've come to an agreement with Matt," said FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller. "He is arguably the best goalkeeper in the North American Soccer League (NASL). This is also a great signing for John Smits, Tyson Farago and Christian Kaiswatum - they will be able to work with someone who is experienced and knows the league very well. The competition for places also really heats up with his addition. I'm very excited about Matt's decision to come to Edmonton."

Van Oekel was a part of the team during their 2011 Championship season, 2012 runner-up season and their 2014 Spring Season Championship season. His goals against average at the end of 2014 was 0.95 after 20 matches and 50 saves.

"I am very excited to be apart of FC Edmonton," said Van Oekel. "I look forward to meeting the team in February and starting our championship efforts. "
