ORLANDO MAGIC
Paulo Orlando continues to have an incredible winter in the Liga de Venezuela Beisbol Profesional, tied for the league lead with 68 hits, second with 38 RBI as well as the second most total bases in the circuit with 101 in his 56 games played. Orlando is one of three players with a .330 batting average or higher at .332 (68-for-205). Orlando leads all Royals farmhands in offseason leagues in hits, runs, doubles, RBI and batting average while being tied for the second most homers with seven.
GIO AND MARIOT DEBUT
Johnny Giavotella and Michael Mariot have both made their Winter League debut in the past month, as Gio is a member of the Tiburones de La Guaira in the Liga de Venezuela Beisbol Profesional and Mariot is pitching for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Liga de Beisbol Dominicano. In his 12 games with the Tiburones, Giavotella has racked up only seven hits in 40 at-bats, for a .175 average, but has scored six runs. Mariot has four scoreless outings in his five total appearances, and has five strikeouts in four total innings for the Gigantes.
POWER OUTAGE
Carlos Peguero and Francisco Pena both had homer-filled debuts in the Liga de Beisbol Dominicano, as Peguero hit five long balls in his first eight games while Pena had two dingers in his first six games. Peguero has only three homers in his last 23 games for the Gigantes del Cibao, and Pena has only one homer in his last 19 games for the Aguilas Cibaenas. Peguero does lead all Royals farmhands in Winter Leagues with eight homers overall, while Pena is just one of five that has knocked out three home runs or more.
