December 17, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Mississauga Steelheads News Release

When all is said and done, the Mississauga Steelheads are still third place in the Central Division, and seventh in the Eastern Conference. The Steelheads had a very uncharacteristic weekend, squeezing in a road win between two home losses. The team certainly appeared affected by the absences of Sam Babintsev and Jimmy Lodge, as they were outscored 14-5 over the three-game set. Mississauga faces another three-game weekend starting Friday, as they look to better their position in the standings heading into the Christmas break.

The Ottawa 67's are first on the docket for the Steelheads this weekend. The 67's take on the Kingston Frontenacs Wednesday, and will draw even with Mississauga in games played by Friday night's matchup at the Hershey Centre. Trailing by just a single point, a win Friday would see the Steelheads jump ahead of the loser of Wednesday's Kingston-Ottawa game for sixth in the Eastern Conference standings. Mississauga and Ottawa have met just once to this point in the season. The 67's took that meeting by a score of 6-3 as they helped coaching legend, Brian Kilrae celebrate his 80th birthday. This Friday, the Steelheads are hosting their U g l y C h r i s t m a s S w e a t e r G a m e in support of The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. Get into the holiday spirit and "Get Ugly, Grant Wishes" with the Steelheads!

On Saturday, the Steelheads head to Belleville for their third meeting with the Bulls this season. The home team proved victorious in each of the first two meetings between these clubs. Belleville took the first game by a score of 5-1, as Spencer Martin made a season-high 52 saves in the loss. The Steelheads were fueled by two second-period goals scored 1:13 apart in their 3-2 victory over the Bulls on November 28.

Mississauga will conclude their weekend with a home game against a divisional rival. The Sudbury Wolves are in town for the first time since Mayor McCallion Tribute Night on November 14. In two games against the Wolves this season, the Steelheads are 2-0 and have outscored Sudbury 10-3. The Wolves conclude their current six-game homestead Thursday as they host the Barrie Colts. The Steelheads look to redeem themselves from last weekend and gain some crucial points in the Eastern Conference. The first 1,000 fans to the Hershey Centre on Sunday will receive limited edition Spencer Martin posters, courtesy of KKP!
