Sea Dogs Trade Fortin to Shawinigan

Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have traded defenceman Louis-Philip Fortin to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

In exchange, the Sea Dogs receive third- and fourth-round draft picks in the 2015 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.

Fortin, 16, is in his second season playing for the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League, where he has seven goals and 20 points in 29 games.

He was selected in the fifth round (87th overall) of the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft by the Quebec Remparts, and was acquired by the Sea Dogs in August in the trade that sent defenceman Alexander McQuaid to the Remparts.

"We feel very good about our young group of defencemen," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "Because of that, we felt it was going to be difficult for Louis-Philip to get regular playing time over the next two years. We don't want to hold young players back. We want to give him a chance to play."

The Sea Dogs close the first half of the 2014-15 season on Thursday, December 18th, at 7 p.m. against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at Harbour Station. Tickets are available at the Harbour Station Box Office, online at harbourstation.ca or by calling 657-1234.

Listen LIVE on 96.1 NewSong FM or online at newsongfm.ca. Watch LIVE on QMJHL Live (fee applies).

The QMJHL's holiday trade period opens Friday, December 19th.
