Wenatchee Proves to be Tough Challenge for Topeka

Tonight marked the arrival of Game Two in the Topeka RoadRunners versus Wenatchee Wild series taking place in Topeka, Kansas, and at the end of three periods, the RoadRunners claimed the 4-3 win. The Wild were able to go 1 for 2 on the power play and ended this match out shooting the home team 33-24. 2,821 fans packed the stands of the Kansas ExpoCentre and the Wild gave them quite the show to leave with. It will certainly be one of the biggest battles of the season going into Game Three tomorrow as Topeka is looking bring out the brooms but the Wild are looking to swoop in and take the weekend's last set of available points.

In this tight competition, there was no scoring in the first period.

Brendan Harris struck first blood for the Wild with a power play goal four minutes and fifty eight seconds into the second period. This point was assisted by Dan Bailey and Ryan Chiasson. As soon as the clock struck 12:24, Wenatchee had taken the lead 2-0 when David Powlowski beat Topeka goaltender Drew Vogler with help from Donovan Ott. Sam Rennaker ended the period with Topeka's first goal of the night exactly 17 minutes into the frame. Willie Brown had the last assist of the second.

Daniel Brickley started the third period off with a power play goal for the RoadRunners one minute and two seconds into the final period. This point was set up by Jasen Fernsler and Sam Rennaker. Scoring the Wild's last goal of the game, Jake Ahlgren put Wenatchee up 3-2 with an unassisted point clocking in at 16:29. At 18:02, Shawn Brennan tied the game in Topeka's favor with a goal assisted by Carlos Fornaris, and with eight seconds left in the game, Brennan scored the RoadRunners' fourth and final point of the night with an unassisted goal.

As stated above, the Wild out shot the RoadRunners 33-24 and ended the game with a 5-16-12 shot record. Jake Ahlgren was the only Wenatchee player to take a penalty during this match up and he was called for Slashing 30 seconds into the third period.

Zach Quinn was in the net for Wenatchee tonight and he stopped 20 shots on goal out of 24.

After tonight's events, Coach Littler stated, "Tough one to take. We played very well."

Tomorrow's third and final game of the series will take place at 6:05 pm CST (4:05 pm PST) in the Kansas ExpoCentre. After this game, the Wild will return to Washington for their final two-game series of 2014 against the Wichita Falls Wildcats on December 19th and 20th. Don't miss out!
