Manchester Monarchs News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Monarchs' four-game winning streak ended on Sunday in Providence after the Bruins handed them a 4-2 loss at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Manchester surrendered one-goal leads in the first and second period before Providence pulled ahead with two goals in the third.

It was Manchester's (17-6-1-1) first loss in regulation since Nov. 29 at Springfield and just its second regulation loss in its last 16 games beginning on Nov. 8.

Kevin Gravel scored on the power play 3:37 into the game on a slap shot from the point to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead. It was his second goal of the season overall and first goal on the power play.

The Bruins tied the score at 16:29 in the first when David Pastrnak beat Patrik Bartosak, making it 1-1.

Brian O'Neill put the Monarchs ahead 2-1 at 16:25 in the second when he took a feed from Nick Shore and buried the shot. It was his eighth goal of the season.

Providence answered again with the tying goal less than two minutes later. Ethan Werek got the tally at 18:02 in the second on the power play after a hooking call against Nick Shore.

Pastrnak gave Providence its first lead of the game when he picked up his second goal of the game at 7:58 in the third period.

Werek's second goal of the contest came at 13:22 in the third, giving the Bruins a two-goal lead. It came on the power play after Andy Andreoff was whistled for hooking at 11:28.

The Monarchs next game will be on Wednesday when they travel to Portland for a 7 p.m. game against the Pirates in the VIP Cup. They will play consecutive games at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Dec. 19 against Worcester (7 p.m.) and Dec. 20 against Providence (7 p.m.).

Notes:

After holding Worcester scoreless in nine power play chances last night, the Monarchs allowed two goals on the man advantage today (2-for-6). Nick Shore assisted on Kevin Gravel's goal in the first period. He now has at least one point in five of his last six games beginning on Dec. 5 (3 goals, 3 assists). Today was the third time in 16 games this season that MCH lost after scoring the game's first goal. Patrik Bartosak fell to 0-2 against Providence in two starts against them this season. He is 4-0 against all other clubs.
