Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are excited to announce that a 51st former Nailer/Thunderbird has made his National Hockey League debut. Bobby Farnham reached the NHL on Saturday night, as the Pittsburgh Penguins visited the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.

Farnham, 25, is in the midst of his third full season of professional hockey, after attending Brown University for four years, where he concentrated his studies in Commerce, Organizations & Entrpreneurship, in addition to playing for the Bears. After completing his senior season in the spring of 2012, Bobby appeared in six AHL games with the Providence Bruins and Worcester Sharks. The following fall, he attended training camp with the Hamilton Bulldogs, before signing an ECHL contract with the Nailers. During his nine-game stint in Wheeling, Farnham quickly gained positive attention from the fanbase, producing three goals, four points, and 46 penalty minutes. Two of his three goals came in a 7-3 win over the Reading Royals in the 2012-13 home opener.

Following his ninth game with the Nailers, the North Andover, MA native joined the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and prior to Saturday night, that was where he had played the rest of his professional career. Over the course of three American Hockey League seasons, Farnham has appeared in 152 games, collecting 11 goals, 18 assists, 29 points, and 553 penalty minutes. He has also suited up in 18 playoff contests, picking up 34 penalty minutes. Bobby's best season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came in 2013-14, when he recorded seven goals and 14 points in 64 games.

On Saturday, Farnham logged 5:31 of ice time, receiving nine shifts, with the highlight of the night being a fight with Jordan Leopold at the 15:13 mark of the first period. His Penguins fell to the Blue Jackets, 4-3 in a shootout.

Bobby Farnham becomes the 51st Nailer/Thunderbird to reach the NHL, and third this season, joining Scott Darling and Brandon DeFazio. Farnham and Darling were teammates on the 2012-13 Wheeling squad, joining Adam Payerl as the second and third members from that season's team to reach the National Hockey League.
