December 14, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release

Despite a strong first quarter start the Halifax Rainmen were unable to finish off the Island Storm Sunday afternoon, dropping a thriller in overtime, 113-106. The loss moves Halifax to 5-4 on the season, and bumps them from first place in the Atlantic Division.

The Rainmen came out strong in the first quarter, opening up a 15-2 margin early. The Island Storm would close the gap towards the end of the first quarter, and finish the half with a 48-46 lead. The stage was set for a dramatic second half, which saw numerous lead changes in the final moments of play. The teams would need overtime to settle the match and the extra frame played to the Storm's advantage. Halifax came out flat to start the overtime frame, allowing the Storm to go up by as much as 8 points. In the end despite a late push Halifax would be unable to overcome the deficit.

Joey Haywood led all Rainmen scorers with 22 points on the night. Chris Cayole put in 18 points, 12 coming from three pointers. Tyrone Watson was just shy of a double double, recording 14 points and 9 rebounds. The Island Storm were led by Billy Rush who had 23 points on the afternoon and Avery Smith who contributed 20 points. Louis Birdsong and Michael Martin, former Rainmen, each had 8 rebounds.

The Halifax Rainmen will be back in action on Friday December 19th when we face the Moncton Miracles at Scotiabank Centre. Tip off time is 7pm and tickets are still available at the Scotiabank Centre Box Office, Ticket Atlantic, or by visiting www.rainmenbasketball.ca.
