Wolves Fall at Danville

December 14, 2014 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Watertown Wolves News Release

The Watertown Wolves stepped on the Danville ice for the first time this season at the David S. Palmer Arena to face the Dashers.

Watertown got off to a strong start. Jo St. Pierre took several dives and and made some superhuman saves to keep the puck out of his net. Cody Dion scored the first goal of the game on assists from Justin Alonzo and Lucas Labelle 3-and-a-half minutes into the first period. Justin MacDonald would stretch the lead to 2-0 on an unassisted goal 11 minutes in. Danville would narrow the lead with a power play goal from Justin Brausen assisted by Jonathan Juliano and Clinton Atkinson a minute later. Watertown added another goal 2 minutes later from Phil Bronner on assists by Matt Wray and Justin MacDonald. The Wolves continued to look strong as they finished the period killing off a 5 on 3-then-4 power play for Danville. The Dashers would out shoot the Wolves 14-8, but the Wolves won the goal count 3-1 at the end of the period.

Danville would make the first strike of the second period when Justin Brausen scored again, this time with Dan Turgeon and Clinton Atkinson assisting. Danville continued to surge scoring 3 minutes later with an unassisted goal from Gehrett Sargis. The tied-game had the players on edge, and reached a boiling point when Watertown's Ben Schoeneberger and Brad Denney exchanged blows. Watertown looked like it was starting to regroup when Dylan O'Neil assisted Justin MacDonald on a power play goal with just a minute left. Things boiled over at the end of the second period as a group of players entangled at the Watertown goal. Dashers again outshot the Wolves 17-4 and were starting to see their persistence paying off as they now only trailed by 1.

The melee at the end of the second left Watertown without Phil Bronner, as he was ejected from the game, and over 20 minutes of penalties to serve in the beginning of the third period. Danville took advantage of the power play and scored a minute-and-a-half in when Gehrett Sargis assisted Wahebe Darge on a power play goal. Jo St. Pierre's expressed his frustration by hurling a puck, unknowingly, in the direction of a linesman. This led to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. His reaction to the penalty led to an additional penalty and his ejection from the game. The game was now tied and Watertown's Jesse Chenard was left to mind the net for the remainder of the game. Danville took the lead for the first time in the game with Wahebe Darge's second goal of the night. The Wolves scrambled to tie the game back up, taking the goalie out to add a sixth player on the Danville end of the ice. Watertown's efforts fell short and Danville gained their first win over the Wolves this season with a final score of 5-4.

The Wolves play the Danville Dashers at the Palmer Arena again Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:05 CST, 8:05 EST.
