Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Pensacola Ice Flyers (12-2-4) scored two power-play goals in the first and rolled to a 4-1 win over the Mississippi RiverKings (5-10-2) Saturday night at the Landers Center. The RiverKings held their annual Teddy Bear Toss during the game, with the stuffed animals being donated to Toys for Tots.

The Ice Flyers took advantage of the only two penalties in the first period by cashing in with two power-play goals. Mitchell Good scored the first at 9:01 when he redirected a shot between the circles past goalie Adam Courchaine. Michael Budd and Daniel Sova were credited with assists. Later in the first, with Pensacola on their second power play, Corey Banfield beat Courchaine at 16:26 for his third goal in the last three games against the RiverKings.

Pensacola extended the 2-0 lead with two more goals in the second. Just 2:07 into the period the Ice Flyers made it 3-0 when Cody Ferriero set up Adam Pawlick for his 15th goal of the season. Ferriero moved down the right wing and passed across to Pawlick, who finished the play with a quick shot. Pawlick got his second at 13:57 when he led a counterattack for Pensacola. He moved to the high slot before sending a wrist shot past Courchaine, making it 4-0.

The RiverKings ended Max Strang's shutout bid with 8:13 remaining in the third period. Luke Warner and Good dropped the gloves at 10:42 and with Good given an additional instigator penalty the RiverKings converted with a power-play goal. Mike Hayward blasted a slap shot from the point to get the RiverKings within three. Andrew Randazzo and Devin Mantha earned assists, but that was the final goal of the game as the Ice Flyers won, 4-1.

The RiverKings held the Teddy Bear Toss at the end of the second period because the team didn't score in the first two periods. Hundreds of bears were collected and will be donated to Toys for Tots.
