Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

EDMONTON, ALTA. -- The bounces literally went against the Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday night against the Kootenay Ice.

The Oil Kings (15-13-3-2) had four shots redirected into their net as the fell 6-3 to the Ice (17-17-0-0) in Cranbrook.

Kootenay opened the scoring on a power play 3:58 into the game as Luke Philp's point shot was niftily deflected into the Edmonton net by Jaedon Descheneau, and made it 2-0 midway through the period as Tyler King tipped a shot at the side of the net that just slid past Tristan Jarry in the Edmonton goal.

The Oil Kings got one back before the end of the period as Brandon Baddock deflected Ashton Sautner's point shot to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the second period, Zak Zborosky made it 3-1 for the Ice as his shot from the high slot bounced off Jarry's shoulder, off the post and into the Edmonton goal.

The Oil Kings came on strong in the third period as Blake Orban wired a slap shot past Wyatt Hoflin for his career-high sixth of the season just 32 seconds in and Brandon Ralph added his second goal in as many games as he put a rebound into the Ice net to tie the game 5:46 into the final period.

The comeback was short lived, however, as the Ice got one back just over two minutes later, after Jarry turned the puck over to Zborosky behind his own net and the Ice forward fed Matt Alfaro for a one-timer into the open net.

Kootenay got a little insurance with 3:33 to play as Matt Allbee's point shot deflected off an Oil Kings defenceman and past Jarry, while Ryan Chynoweth added an empty-net goal for the Ice.

Baddock and Ralph each finished with one goal and one assist, while linemate Tyler Robertson had a pair of helpers. Ralph extended his point streak to three games, while Baddock set a new career high with 18 points on the year.

Hoflin and Jarry each finished with 24 saves.

The Oil Kings now return home to Rexall Place where they will host the WHL's top team the Kelowna Rockets on Tuesday night.
