Louisiana IceGators News Release

Columbus, Ga.--The Columbus Cottonmouths seem to have the Louisiana IceGators' number in games that go into overtime.

One night after beating the IceGators in a shootout, the Cottonmouths claimed a 4-3 victory over Louisiana in extra time. Kyle Thomas scored the game winner with 15 seconds remaining in the overtime period.

The IceGators return to action next Saturday when they face the Mississippi RiverKings in the Cajundome. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"We came out and looked like a championship team for the first 12 minutes of the game," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "Unfortunately, we went back to some bad habits and put ourselves in a hole.

"The second period was awful. We allowed a team we should have beaten to get a two-goal lead on us. We showed some character in the third and came back once again, but I'm not at all pleased with our effort."

The first period saw the two teams trade goals.

Mitchell Stretch put Louisiana on the scoreboard first with a goal assisted by Chris Wilson at the 10:01 mark of the opening period.

Chris Bailer and Matt Gingera responded in the waning minutes of the frame to give Columbus a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

Gingera put the Coftonmouths ahead 3-1 when he scored at the 4:25 mark of the second period. Neilsson Arcibal assisted on the play.

The IceGators woke up in the third period.

Chris Wilson cut the IceGators' deficit to one when he scored an unassisted power play goal 61 seconds into the frame.

Adam Stuart tied the game with a short-handed goal with 11:29 left in regulation. Mike MacIntyre assisted on the score.

The game seemed to be headed to a shootout, but Thomas and Columbus had other plans. Thomas scored off feeds from Shawn Bates and Levi Lind to seal the victory in the final seconds of overtime.

Omicioli says the next week will be used to reevaluate his roster completely.

"It's time to figure out who wants to be part of a full 60-minute game," Omicioli said. "That's what I will be doing for the next few days. We'll take the four points we picked up this weekend, but we should have had six."
