Columbus Uses Shootout to Best Louisiana, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Matt Gingera netted the deciding goal for the Columbus Cottonmouths in the shootout as Cottonmouths prevailed over the Louisiana IceGators, 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Louisiana's shootout goal was scored by Adam Stuart. Columbus' other shootout goal was scored by Bryce Williamson.

The Cottonmouths' penalty kill excelled, as Columbus gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Cottonmouths were led by Gingera, who grabbed one goal. Gingera scored on the power play 17:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Columbus. Columbus had taken the advantage when the IceGators' Mitchell Stretch got sent off for tripping. Williamson provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths were led by Gingera, who had one goal. Others who scored for Columbus included Louis Belisle and Patrick McCadden, who scored one goal each. More assists for Columbus came via Kyle Johnson and Mike Switzer, who contributed one each.

Louisiana's defensemen played well offensively, producing three goals while racking up 15 shots. The IceGators put 37 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 they average per game.

Louisiana was helped by Kirk Byczynski, who registered one goal. Byczynski scored 12:37 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Wilson picked up the assist. Louisiana also had goals scored by Tanner Burton and Mike MacIntyre, who each put in one. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Benjamin Rubin, who had one and Stuart, who had three.

Andrew Loewen recorded 34 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The IceGators' Andrew Flemming stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Louisiana incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
