Saginaw Start Road Stretch with Loss at Erie

The Saginaw Spirit visited the Erie Insurance Center for some Friday night hockey against the Erie Otters. The Spirit finished behind the Otters, with a final score of 6-4.

The Saginaw Spirit opened up the scoring against the Erie Otters after Jesse Barwell netted a nice pass from Mitchell Stephens and Jacob Ringuette at the 2:08 mark. The Erie Otters quickly retaliated and put home two quick goals, making it a 2-1 game within the first few minutes of the period. Erie's Alex DeBrincat put the Otters' first tally of the night at the 4:03 mark with assists coming from Kyle Pettit and Cory Genovese. Taylor Raddysh followed quickly behind and put home the second goal against the Spirit, with the help of Alex DeBrincat and Darren Raddysh. The Otters recorded three more tallies before Saginaw's Jack Webb recorded his first OHL goal and beat Erie's starting goaltender Daniel Dekoning. With three minutes left in the first period Adam McPhail fed the puck to Webb who made it 5-2 game against the Otters. Shots on goal after the first 20 minutes of play read Erie 13, Saginaw 9.

The Erie Otters snuck the only goal of the second period past Saginaw's starting goaltender Jake Paterson a sixth time, making the score 6-2 after 40 minutes of play. Travis Dermott put home the power play goal for the Otters, with the help of Trent Fox and Alex DeBrincat at 6:50 of the period. Shots on goal for the second period favored Erie 18-6.

The Spirit took the third period to play a little catch up against the Otters, scoring two goals on Erie. Two minutes into the final period Saginaw's Keaton Middleton scored his first OHL goal and found the back of the net for the Spirit, cutting into Erie's lead, making it a 6-3 game. The lone assist on the play was credited to Mitchell Webb. Erie's Jesse Saban was sent to the box for hooking at 8 minutes of the period and Saginaw sent out the power play unit. Saginaw's Jacob Ringuette pulled the score up to 6-4 after he netted a power play goal midway through the final period. Nick Moutrey and Mitchell Stephens took the assists on the play. Final score read 6-4 in favor of Erie, with shots on goal reading Erie 31, Saginaw 23.

The Saginaw Spirit will see three away games before they return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, December 20th for some holiday hockey when they play host to the Windsor Spitfires. Puck is set to drop at 7:11 p.m. The Spirit will visit the Niagara IceDogs Saturday, December 13th at the Meridian Centre. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
