Toronto FC Selects Robbie Findley in First Phase of MLS Re-Entry Draft
December 12, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has selected forward Robbie Findley in the first phase of the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
"Robbie brings a wealth of MLS experience to our club. He is a proven goal scorer in our league and has won an MLS Cup," said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "We are excited to bring Robbie to TFC and know he will fit in well with our group and what we are trying to accomplish."
Findley, 29, recently completed his sixth season with Real Salt Lake, where he made 17 appearances and scored one goal. Findley was originally selected by the LA Galaxy in the second round (16th overall) in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft from Oregon State University. On June 21, 2007 Findley was dealt to Real Salt Lake and remained with the club until the conclusion of the 2010 MLS season. In his first four seasons in the MLS, Findley made 114 appearances in MLS league play and the MLS playoffs between Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy. He scored 33 goals and added 15 assists during that span. Findley was part of Real Salt Lake's 2009 MLS Cup winning side, scoring the tying goal against LA Galaxy in the 64th minute. Findley would later score in the shootout, helping RSL claim its first MLS Cup in franchise history.
Following the 2010 MLS Season, Findley signed with English Championship club, Nottingham Forest on December 23, 2010. He went on to make 29 combined appearances, scoring six goals over three seasons. Findley went on a loan spell at English League Two side, Gillingham in September 2012 and made seven appearances before being returned to Nottingham Forest.
Upon the termination of his contract at Nottingham Forest, Findley was traded by the Portland Timbers back to Real Salt Lake on January 16, 2013. Portland held his MLS rights after initially selecting him in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft. In his first season back at RSL, Findley made a combined 30 appearances, scoring eight goals and added three assists. Findley helped lead RSL back to the MLS Cup in 2013 where they fell to Sporting KC in penalties. Findley remains Real Salt Lake's all-time goal scoring leader in the playoffs with six goals.
To date, Findley has earned 11 caps for the United States Men's national team. He earned his first cap on October 17, 2007 coming on as a substitute against Switzerland. Findley was part of the U.S. 2010 FIFA World Cup squad and made three appearances during the tournament in South Africa.
