Stingrays Receive Rights of Defenseman Andrew Blazek from Cincinnati; Add Forward John Mitchell

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, acquired the ECHL rights of defenseman Andrew Blazek from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for forward Branden Gracel, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today. In a separate transaction, the Stingrays added forward John Mitchell.
Blazek, 26, is currently with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League (AHL) after battling in 12 games with the Cyclones and pitching in one assist. Last season, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, product finished his senior season at Robert Morris University and dressed in six regular season games with the Cyclones and 20 postseason contests, helping the Cyclones reach the Kelly Cup Finals. With the Colonials, Blazek picked up 51 points (17 goals, 34 assists) in 129 games.
Mitchell, 28, began the season with the Dundee Stars of the ELITE Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom acquiring 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 25 contests. The Neenah, Wisconsin, native is currently in his fifth professional season, skating in 193 contests in the AHL totaling 57 points (30 goals, 27 assists) and three games in the ECHL with the Elmira Jackals in 2010-11. Prior to turning pro, Mitchell attended the University of Wisconsin for four seasons (2006-10) grabbing 61 points (32 goals, 29 assists) in 139 games.
Gracel, 24, competed in 17 games with the Stingrays this season scoring four goals and five assists for nine points.
