Rivermen Host Knoxville in Fight for SPHL Position

PEORIA - A two-game series between two of the top teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League is on top at Carver Arena this weekend as the Peoria Rivermen host the Knoxville Ice Bears.

The teams square off on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 each night. The Rivermen enter the set with a record of 9-5-2 with 20 points, good for third place in the SPHL two points behind the second-place Ice Bears (11-4-0, 22 points). The Rivermen have dealt Knoxville all four of their losses and hold a 4-1-0 advantage in the season series.

The Rivermen are 6-1-0 at Carver Arena this season while the Ice Bears are 4-2-0 away from Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

Peoria is led in scoring by Alex Hudson with 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points. All of his goals and 5 of his assists have been against Knoxville. Josh Harris has scored 6 of his 8 goals and 2 of his 3 assists against the Ice Bears.

Ryan Salvis leads the Ice Bears with 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) and is second in SPHL scoring. Teammates Eric Satim (8 goals, 11 assists) and Francis Drolet (9 goals, 10 assists) are tied for fourth in the league with 19 points.

Spiderman is scheduled to appear at Friday's game, which is also Faith Night featuring a post-game concert by Christian group Attaboy.

Saturday's game is the Rivermen Christmas Celebration, including the Ugly Christmas Sweater jerseys worn by the Rivermen in conjunction with an ugly Christmas sweater contest. Saturday is also Salvation Army Coats for Kids Night as fans are asked to bring gently used coats for the annual drive. Hot dogs and Bud Light drafts are $2 each.
