Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - The Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Club and the Bulldogs Foundation announced today the Foundation will donate $30,045 to the Marcus Cirillo Trust, raised through initiatives associated with the Bulldogs' Military Appreciation Night on Friday, Dec. 5.

Marcus Cirillo is the son of the late Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was a member of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada and a Hamiltonian. Cpl. Cirillo passed away on Oct. 22 after being gunned down while on duty guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ont.

"We want to thank the people of Southwestern Ontario and specifically the Hamilton community for rallying around the Cirillo family and for their support in making this event a success," said Bulldogs president Stephen Ostaszewicz. "We also had significant contributions made from people across Canada and the United States which is truly remarkable."

The Bulldogs donated a portion of individual and group tickets sold to the Marcus Cirillo Trust. The Bulldogs Foundation ran an online auction on bulldogsauction.com of the specialty jerseys, helmets and pant shells worn on Military Appreciation Night, with all proceeds from the auction as well as an in-game mystery puck contest, silent auction and jersey raffle donated to the Trust.

The jersey of captain Gabriel Dumont garnered the highest bid in the online auction, being sold for $1,505, followed by Nathan Beaulieu's jersey for $1,100 and Jarred Tinordi's jersey for $900.

The Bulldogs Foundation was established in 2007. The mission of the Foundation is to enrich the lives of children and youth in the Greater Hamilton Area through cash donations, gifts in kind and the assignment of tickets. By doing so, the Foundation aims to promote the creativity of interactive programs involving education, physical fitness and personal well-being. The main purpose of the Foundation is to strengthen and broaden the base of the Hamilton Bulldogs community support by providing funds to non-profit community groups and by supporting educational and community programs.
