Beasts of the East Tackle Best of the West in 4-1 Win

December 7, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals took on the Erie Otters tonight on home ice in one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season. The Generals proved why they are number one in the BMO CHL Top 10 Rankings and defeated the Otters 4-1 tonight.

The whole game was evenly matched between these two first place teams, one from the East and one from the West. Physical play and scoring chances for each side were evident throughout the game. It would be the Generals who opened the scoring tonight with a goal from Tobias Lindberg off of a beautiful pass from Mitchell Vande Sompel at 7:15. The Otters quickly returned the goal however as Raddysh put one past Kenny Appebly at 8:21. The remainder of the period was fast paced, great hockey to watch. The first period only saw one penalty, a check from behind for Erie's Genovese. The period closed with the Generals leading shots on goal 11-7.

The pace of the second period remained fast and penalty free. These two skilled teams came out to play hard tonight and succeeded in doing so. Oshawa gained a 2-1 lead at 14:27 when Sam Harding scored, assisted by Joe Manchurek and Chris Carlisle. The game was played very offensively with a lot of action in both ends. The second period again wrapped up with the Generals outshooting the Otters, this time 12-10.

The third period is when the Generals would show their dominance over the Otters, scoring two more goals to secure the win. Only 39 seconds into the period, Hunter Smith scored the third Generals goal of the night, assisted by Lindberg and Petschenig. At 2:18, Latour sat on a hooking call but the Generals demonstrated their penalty kill abilities and the Otters couldn't capitalize on any chances. With just under five minutes remaining in the third, Michael Dal Colle kept his point streak alive with a beautiful goal that was unassisted. The Generals took the win 4-1 over one of the best teams in the OHL.

These two teams certainly proved why they are the number one ranked teams in the East and West Conferences. With only four penalties the whole game, both teams showed a lot of skill and perhaps gave us a taste of some future playoff action to come. The Generals win their third consecutive game in the past four days and continue to impress anyone who has the pleasure of watching them.
