December 7, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Saginaw Spirit News Release

The Saginaw Spirit took the ice against the Guelph Storm for some Sunday afternoon OHL hockey. The Spirit were looking to keep the wins against the Storm going after defeating Guelph on the road in early November. Saginaw was unable to take the win and left the Dow Event Center on Sunday behind Guelph by a score of 4-2. This has been the third matchup for Saginaw and Guelph this season.

The Saginaw Spirit saw a strong first period offensively, putting 9 shots on Guelph's starting goaltender Justin Nichols, but could not find the back of the net. Guelph opened up the game's scoring at 6:19 of the first period on a goal by Chadd Baumann, with assists coming from Adam Craievich and Marc Stevens. The Storm were able to put another goal past Saginaw's starting goaltender Jake Paterson, and finished off the period ahead of Saginaw 2-0. With one minute left on the clock Pius Suter netted Guelph's second goal of the game with the help of Tyler Boston and Phil Baltisberger. Saginaw outshot Guelph 9-5 after 20 minutes of play and the teams headed to the locker room for the game's first intermission.

The Storm pulled ahead of the Spirit and achieved the only goal in the second period of play off the stick of Guelph's captain Jason Dickinson. It wasn't until the later part of the period that Dickinson took a pass from Ben Harpur and made it a 3-0 game over the Spirit. Tyler Boston was also credited with an assist on the goal that came at the 16:36 mark. Guelph lead the second period in shots on goal, finishing ahead of Saginaw 8-6.

The Saginaw Spirit saw a turn of events in the third period, scoring twice before the final buzzer. Early into the last period of the Jacob Ringuette fired a nice shot but hit the post. Fortunately Saginaw's Mitchell Stephens shoved in the rebound and put a tally on the board for the Spirit, making it a 3-1 game. Artem Artemov cut into the Guelph lead after picking up a lone pass from Dylan Sadowy and cut into the Storm's lead at the 15:26 mark. The Spirit pulled goaltender Jake Paterson in hopes of tying the game late in the third but Guelph's Tyler Bertuzzi snuck an empty netted goal past Saginaw's defense and put the final score to 4-2 Guelph. Final shots on goal read Saginaw 28, Guelph 27.

The Saginaw Spirit will see four away games before they return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, December 20th for some holiday hockey when they play host to the Windsor Spitfires. Puck is set to drop at 7:11 p.m. The Saginaw Spirit will begin their travels on Friday, December 12th as they take on the Erie Otters on the road at the Erie Insurance Center at 7 p.m.
