Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (12-8-0-2), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, celebrated Teddy Bear Toss Night against the Colorado Eagles (11-7-0-0) with a 5-3 victory in front of a crowd of 8,970 on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

After plenty of back-and-forth action by both teams in the first period, Matt White ignited the scoring when he teamed up with Matt Register on a give-and-go play. As White entered the offensive zone, he dropped a pass back to Register into the slot, who then fed it ahead to White. White then lofted the puck short-side past Clarke Saunders at 17:01 to get the Reign on the board, and kick off the Teddy Bear Toss.

A total of 7,375 stuffed animals were collected during the Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by Smart Solar Power, which will be donated to Toys for Tots.

After play resumed, White added his second of the night with only seconds remaining in the frame when Tristan King sent a no-look pass back to White in the slot. White fired off a shot that was initially stopped by Saunders, but the forward banged his own rebound into the net at 19:47. Geoff Walker earned the secondary assist.

In the second period, Derek Couture redirected Alex Roach's point shot just 0:36 into the frame, with Judd Blackwater earning the secondary assist.

Trent Daavettila answered for the Eagles shortly thereafter as he banked in a shot past Jussi Olkinuora at 1:05, with Vitalijs Pavlovs and Brett Kulak assisting.

In the third, Walker snapped a weak-side shot past the glove of Saunders off a feed from White at 7:43. The Reign then capped their scoring at 11:16 when Maxim Kitsyn received a forward pass from Everett Sheen, then barreled to the net and snuck the puck underneath the right pad of Saunders at 11:16.

The Eagles attempted to mount a comeback when Kulak scored a power-play goal at 12:26, with Derek Rodwell and Collin Bowman. Pavlovs then pulled Colorado to within two goals when he scored off a feed from Jordan Kwas at 16:02, with Bowman receiving the secondary assist.

Although the Eagles pulled Saunders for an extra attacker late in the game, Ontario shut the door on Colorado the rest of the way to pick up its third straight home victory.

Olkinuora picked up the win with 38 saves; Saunders took the loss with 18 stops.
