FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville FireAntz scored three times on 5-on-3 power plays and defeated the Peoria Rivermen 7-3 on Saturday night at Crown Coliseum.

The FireAntz connected just 5:09 into the game when Derek Elliott blasted a top-shelf tally from the right circle on a feed from Zach Carriveau also assisted by Corey Toy. The Rivermen found an equalizer with 7:40 left in the opening period when Mike Slowikowski drilled a long blast from the center point inside the right post on an assist from Jordan Sims to send the game to the first intermission tied 1-1.

Fayetteville grabbed a 2-1 lead just 1:25 into the second period when Chad Hohmann flipped a drive from the right point that pinballed off bodies and into the net inside the left post. The Rivermen quickly tied the count three minutes later at 2-2 when Jordan Sims broke up a play at the Peoria blue line to allow Alec Hagaman to score on a breakaway for the first shorthanded goal of the season. The FireAntz regained a 3-2 lead with 7:25 left in the middle chapter on a 5-on-3 power play when Elliott recorded his second goal of the game with a redirect at the right post. Yet another 5-on-3 advantage resulted in a goal for the Antz with 7.2 seconds before the second intermission when Carriveau scored from the slot for a 4-2 lead.

The FireAntz scored their third straight goal on a two-man advantage just 1:04 into the final chapter when Elliott capped his hat trick with a flurry at the net. The Rivermen used a 5-on-3 power play of their own to cut the deficit to 5-3 on a drive by Cole Ruwe from the slot set up by Garrett Vermeersch and Josh Harris just over five minutes later.

Fayetteville capped the win with two late goals, one a shorthanded empty net score by Trevor Hertz with 1:57 remaining and a Kyle McNeil flurry with 6.1 seconds remaining.
