Thunderbirds Drop Americans 3-1

Kent, WA- The Tri-City Americans (15-13-0-0, 30 pts) lost its second straight game on Friday night, falling to the Seattle Thunderbirds (12-12-2-2, 28 pts) 3-1 in front of 2,655 fans at the ShoWare Center.

The Americans took two early penalties that led to a 5-on-3 power play for Seattle, and they took advantage. Ethan Bear fired a one-timed slap shot past Eric Comrie to make it 1-0 4:12 into the first period. Seattle made it 2-0 midway through the first as Ryan Gropp found the back of the net. Seattle had the shot advantage 10-6 in the first period.

Seattle kept the momentum going early in the second period, as Jerret Smith was able to score to make it 3-0 Thunderbirds. The Americans got something going late in the second period as Jordan Topping was able to get Tri-City on the board and cut the lead to 3-1.

Tri-City fought to get back into the game in the third period, outshooting Seattle 7-5 in the period. But Taran Kozun played solid in the third period to bring home the win for the Thunderbrids.

Seattle had six penalty minutes and converted 1-of-3 chances on the power play. Tri-City had four penalty minutes and couldn't convert any of its three chances with a man advantage.

Eric Comrie stopped 22 shots in the loss, while Taran Kozun made 17 saves in the win for Seattle.

The Americans return home and have a day off before facing the Kootenay Ice (14-15-0-0, 28 pts) this Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Toyota Center. The Americans beat the Ice last season 4-2 on the road in Kootenay.
