Omaha Lancers News Release

RALSTON, NE - Brian Williams tied the game early in the 2nd period and Kris Oldham made 28 saves but it was the debut of newly acquired Sioux Falls' forward Cooper Marody who scored twice as the Stampede slipped by the Omaha Lancers 3-2 on Friday night in front of 2,836 fans at Ralston Arena.

Omaha took a penalty early in the game as Drew Best was given a minor penalty for contact to the head at 1:10 of the opening period. On that power-play, the Stampede converted to take the quick lead. Moving down the right wing side of the ice Cooper Marody found a wide open Kieffer Bellows in front of the net for a 1-0 lead just 3:01 into the game. Parker Tuomie was credited with the other assist on Bellows' 5th of the season.

To start the second period, it was Omaha's turn to get an early goal. Brian Williams went hard to the net as a scrum evolved in front of Stampede goaltender Stefanos Lekkas. Williams took a hack at the puck and it went up and over Lekkas to even the score 1-1 just 1:40 into the middle frame. Omaha got assists on the goal from Louie Rowe and Jake Gingell.

Another power-play tally put the Stampede back out into the lead. Clint Lewis fired a shot on net from the top of the offensive circle that was originally stopped by goaltender Kris Oldham. The rebounded landed at the top of the crease and players scrambled for possession. Cooper Marody got the final stick on the puck and it rolled between the legs of Oldham for the 2-1 lead for Sioux Falls. Assists were picked up by Lewis and Parker Tuomie with only 2:32 remaining in the second period.

In just his first game, Marody struck again for a two goal lead. After the Lancers shifted the momentum back during a power-play an interception and odd-man rush put the Stampede on the board again. A three-on-one rush allowed Marody to trail the play and he took the pass from Alec Marsh letting a wrist shot go that beat Oldham for a 3-1 lead at 12:20 of the final period. Marsh had the only assist on the goal.

Omaha pulled Kris Oldham with over two minutes left in regulation and down a pair of goals. After calling timeout, Jimmy Schuldt took the puck from just above the right wing circle and let a shot go through traffic that went over the left shoulder of Stefanos Lekkas moving the Lancers within a goal of tying the game. Schuldt's goal was assisted by Shane Gersich and Drew Best with only 1:08 left in the game.

The 3-2 score held up as the final tonight with Kris Oldham stopping 28 of 31 shots on net.

Omaha returns to Ralston Arena tomorrow night as the rival Lincoln Stars play in town for the first of four meetings in Omaha this year. Can't make it?
