Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor, ON) - The Soo Greyhounds broke a 5-5 tie late in the third period on their way to an 8-5 decision over the Spitfires Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.
The result spoiled a furious three-goal, third-period rally by Windsor (9-16-1-0) which had a modest, two-game win streak snapped.
Blake Speers (2G, 1A) and Bryan Moore (1G, 2A) led the way offensively for Sault Ste Marie (20-6-0-1), which has now won both games of a six-game season series with the Spits.
The home side trailed by two or more goals on three separate occasions, before scoring three times in the third period to even the game for the first time. Trevor Murphy (8), Cristiano DiGiacinto (9) and Slater Doggett (10) brought the Spits back from 5-2 down with consecutive goals before the final frame was half finished.
But an unassisted goal from Keigan Goetz (6) at 13:20 put the visitors ahead for good.
Bryan Moore's power play goal with less than five minutes to play put the game out of reach. Moore was one of five Greyhounds with at least two points.
Sam Povorozniouk chipped in a pair of assists in a losing cause, while Ryan Moore (3) and Markus Soberg (4) each scored first period goals.
Brendan Johnston made 34 saves, while Chatham native Joseph Raaymakers (14 saves) took the win.
The Spits return to action on Saturday, as they host the North Bay Battalion on Sun Life & CI Investments Teddy Bear Toss night. Gametime is 7:05.
