Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID (12/3/14) - Wade MacLeod and Alex Belzile each posted three-point nights and James Livingston snapped home the game-clincher in the sixth round of the game-ending shootout as the Idaho Steelheads edged the Bakersfield Condors, 5-4, Wednesday night in front of 3,378 fans at CenturyLink Arena in Boise.

With the win, Idaho improves to 12-7-2 overall (26 points) and has now won two of three games to reach the game-ending shootout. Eight of Idaho's past nine games have been decided by one goal.

Bakersfield drew first blood on a Joe Marciano shot through traffic from the right wing, his first of the season, at 15:15 of the first period but Idaho came up with a crucial answer before the period ended. With less than a minute before intermission, Livingston won a puck battle along the left-wing wall and threw a cross-ice pass to Matt Case at the right point. Case's blast was saved by Bakersfield's Frans Tuohimaa, but Steve Quailer poked home the rebound at 19:09 of the first to tie the game, 1-1.

Idaho took its first lead of the night less than three minutes into the second period when Belzile deflected a Wade MacLeod pass over Tuohimaa's shoulder at 2:55 of the second, his tenth of the season which was also assisted by Ludwig Karlsson. Bakersfield nearly tied it on a breakaway midway through the period, but Olivier Roy shut the door on Jordan Kremyr to keep Idaho on top. The Condors did draw even at 14:59 when Chase Schaber knocked home a rebound from the right-wing post, setting the stage for a frantic final period.

MacLeod put Idaho in good position with a pair of goals early in the period. First, at 1:18, off a Brett Robinson face-off win, Belzile drove the net but was denied by the leg pad of Tuohimaa. MacLeod was in the right place, though, chipping home the rebound from the bottom of the left-wing circle for his sixth goal of the season to put Idaho on top. Then, at 7:11, a MacLeod shot from the left-wing half wall appeared to be tipped in front of the net and re-directed over the shoulder of the Condors' netminder for his second goal of the night, again assisted by Belzile, to put Idaho up, 4-2. Bakersfield's power play got the Condors closer at 9:24 when a Brendon Nash shot from the center point appeared to get deflected past Roy to make it 4-3 and then, at 19:02 with the net empty in favor of an extra attacker, Kellen Jones found a loose puck in the low slot and snapped it home through a screen to tie the game.

Neither side scored in overtime, totaling just three shots on net, setting the stage for the game-ending shootout. Josh Winquist and MacLeod each scored in the first round before Kellen Jones and Charlie Dodero each scored in the fourth round. In the sixth round, Sebastian Sylvestre was denied by Roy before Livingston ripped a wrister from the hashmarks low, past the blocker of Tuohimaa, for the winning tally as the Steelheads secured the second point in the standings with the win.

Roy got his ninth win of the season, stopping 32 of 36 in live play and four of six in the shootout. Tuohimaa stopped 28 of 32 in live play before Idaho got three of six shootout shots past him. Idaho's penalty-kill went 3-4 while Bakersfield's was a perfect 5-for-5.

MacLeod finished the night with two goals and one assist while Belzile had a goal and two assists, giving him 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in his past 12 games.

The Steelheads and Condors battle again on Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, as the Steelheads will wear special jerseys to be auctioned off to raise money for St. Luke's Children's hospital.
