Attack in Erie
December 3, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack are headed to Erie, Pennsylvania to take on the Otters tonight.
It was a short week of practice for the Attack who will begin a week of three games in four nights against MidWest division opponents.
Erie enters Wednesday's game with a record of 21-4-0-1, good for 43 points in 26 games this year and sit atop the OHL Standings.
Despite being without highly touted centre, Connor McDavid, the Otters are still an extremely dangerous team offensively. Fellow 2015 draft prospect Dylan Strome leads the OHL in points with 53 on the year, while rookie Alex Debrincat has 23 goals and 18 assists for 41 points.
The Attack will be looking to snap a three game losing streak against the Otters, but despite being on a bit of a slide, Owen Sound is just three points out of 2nd place in a tightly contested Midwest Division.
Owen Sound sits at 12-8-1-4 on the year for 29 points, which has them tied with the Guelph Storm.
Chris Bigras will be leading the charge for the Attack on Wednesday, buoyed by the vote of confidence he received from Hockey Canada on Monday. Thanks to a strong showing at this year's Subway Super Series and a stellar 22 points in 25 games, the 4th year defenceman was named to Team Canada's preliminary roster for the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championships. Bigras participated in last year's tournament with the Canadian team, seeing action in 7 games for the squad and finishing with a +2 rating.
Wednesday's game in Erie is set for a 7:00 pm puck drop and can be listened to live on Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio on 560 CFOS with Fred Wallace.
Owen Sound's next home game is on Saturday, Dec. 6 when they host the Kitchener Rangers at 7:30 pm. This is the second night for the Attack Hunger Campaign and also the Grey Motors Toonies and Toys Night. Fans are reminded to bring a non-perishable food item and a new unwrapped toy to Saturday's game in support of the Owen Sound Fire Departments annual Toy Drive.
Tickets for that game, and all Attack home games can be purchased at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.
This season of Attack Hockey is brought to you by Caframo.
KEYS TO VICTORY
A dynamic roster like Erie's will punish teams when given time and space to work in the offensive zone. For Owen Sound to be successful they will need to limit the Otters' zone time by using a relentless forecheck and clogging up all passing lanes. A disciplined game will be key as well, as the Attack will look to keep the Otters' power play off the ice.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Dylan Strome, C, Erie Otters
20 G, 53 A, 26 GP
Strome has taken over the mantle of teammate Connor McDavid in the OHL's scoring race with the Otter captain sidelined with a broken hand. Despite his play this year, the 17 year old Strome was left off of Canada's preliminary roster for the World Juniors and may enter Wednesday's game with an added chip on his shoulder because of it.
