Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants announced on Tuesday that the club will honour Co-Owner Pat Quinn on Friday, December 5th when the Giants host the Portland Winterhawks. Pat Quinn Night will feature a pre-game ceremony where a banner will be raised to recognize Quinn's contributions to the Giants organization.

"Pat is a big part of the reason the Vancouver Giants are here today," said Giants majority owner Ron Toigo. "He was integral in moulding the vision and structure that this organization was founded on, which led to all of our success. Pat will always be a big part of the Giants, and the banner we raise on Friday night will make us very proud. It will remind us how privileged we were to have known Pat Quinn. We will miss him, but we will never forget what he means to all of us."

Quinn, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, passed away on November 23rd after a lengthy illness. The Big Irishman played in the NHL for nine seasons before stepping off the ice and behind the bench where he was a two-time Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL's Coach of the Year. Quinn led the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks to berths in the Stanley Cup Final and won an Olympic gold medal, a World Junior championship, a World Under-18 championship, a World Cup of Hockey and two Memorial Cups - one as a player with the Edmonton Oil Kings in 1963, and one with the Giants as an owner in 2007.

The first 5,000 fans who enter the Pacific Coliseum on Friday will receive a commemorative lapel pin while the Giants will also unveil a jersey patch and a logo in the ice to honour Quinn.
