Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies battled back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits and beat the Idaho Steelheads 4-3 in a shootout Monday night at Maverik Center.
The Grizzlies saw themselves down 2-0 early as Idaho scored 1:46 into the game and 3:02 into the game before Utah started to roll.
Out of a media timeout, Myles Harvey banged a puck off of the back wall and Vinny Scarsella (6) slammed it in for his fourth goal in five games and the game was 2-1 6:16 in.
Idaho got off to another quick start 26 seconds into the second period and made it 3-1.
Utah made it 3-2 off of a face-off 6:29 into the second period as Michael Pelech won a face-off off of an icing and centered Mathieu Aubin between the circles at point blank range as he scored for the third time in two games.
The Grizzlies completed the comeback 2:57 into the third after trailing for 41:11 as Matt Pelech skated up ice and completed a wraparound and the game was tied at three.
"We're happy to have him here, his presence in the locker room is tremendous; on the ice the guys rally around him." said Head Coach/GM Tim Branham on Pelech who comes to Utah with NHL experience.
Utah goaltender Joe Howe stopped the final 24 shots that he faced, including 15 in the third period to force the shootout.
Howe stopped all four in the shootout and Barry Almeida and Michael Pelech both scored to give Utah the win.
"I was excited," said Howe on the shootout. "I felt like I had a chance to win the game after I felt I let the guys down in the first half."
"Howe played great at the end of the game when we needed him, that was huge," said Branham.
The Grizzlies are next in action Wednesday in Cincinnati and Friday and Saturday in Wheeling, West Virginia. Face-off all three nights is at 5:30 p.m.
