James Romain Returns to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (December 1, 2014) - The Philadelphia Soul have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with third-year defensive back, James Romain (5'11, 175, Delaware State). Romain becomes the 12th player from last year's team to officially return for the 2015 season.

"James is an outstanding talent and we are happy to have him back," said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. "He is a rising star in this league and is an important part of our secondary as we continue to put our foundation together for a championship run."

In his rookie season in 2013, James recorded 42.5 total tackles, 19 pass breakups and three forced fumbles in 15 games. He also added three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown as well as adding a kickoff return for a touchdown. Romain had a breakout year in 2014 by recording 82.0 total tackles, five interceptions, 18 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. He also tallied five touchdowns on returns - two fumbles, two interceptions and one kickoff return.

Before arriving in Philadelphia, Romain spent time with the IFL's Green Bay Blizzard (2012) and Fairbanks Grizzlies (2011) where he was finished second for Rookie of the Year selection and named First Team All-IFL.

James was named Delaware State's Defensive Most Valuable Player as a senior and finished with 47 tackles, 20 passes defended, 13 passes broken up and four interceptions. At Junior College (Hudson Valley CC) he was named First Team All-American (2005).
