Giants double-up on Hitmen

Calgary, AB - The Vancouver Giants snapped a six-game losing streak beating the Calgary Hitmen 6-3 Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Matt Bellerive had two goals and an assist to lead the Giants scoring attack while Jesse Roach, Jackson Houck, Josh Thrower and Gage Quinney also scored for Vancouver.

For Roach, the younger brother of former Hitmen defenceman Alex Roach, and Quinney it was their first career goals in the Western Hockey League.

Jake Virtanen scored twice for Calgary, his sixth and seventh of the season, as the Hitmen lost for only the third time in regulation in their last 12 games. Radel Fazleev had the other goal for the Hitmen who, after opening the scoring, saw Vancouver score five of the next six goals to build a 5-2 third period lead.

Payton Lee turned aside 32 of 35 shots to record his seventh win of the season while Evan Johnson and Mack Shields, in relief, combined for 23 saves for Calgary.

Special teams played a large part in the Giants win with Vancouver going 2-3 on the powerplay and killing all four shorthanded situations.

The Hitmen, now 14-11-1-2 on the season, visit the Red Deer Rebels on Tuesday, Dec. 2 before returning to the Scotiabank Saddledome to open a five-game homestand on Friday, Dec. 5 against the Edmonton Oil Kings (7:00 p.m., Sportsnet 960 The FAN).
