Manchester Monarchs News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Monarchs surrendered the first four goals of the game in a 4-1 loss at Springfield on Saturday night, ending the club's point streak at nine straight games.

Manchester fell to 13-5-1-0 on the season, while the Falcons (15-7-1-0) earned their ninth straight win. Springfield has the longest active winning streak in the AHL.

Springfield's Corey Cowick scored the game's first goal when his wrist shot from the blue line beat J.F. Berube at 11:46 in the first.

Domenic Monardo scored 21 seconds into the second period when he batted home a bouncing puck in front of the Manchester goal to make the score 2-0 Springfield.

The Falcons took a 3-0 lead 8:10 into the second when Sean Collins scored on a feed from Ryan Craig.

Monardo collected his second goal of the night at 9:06 in the second, scoring on a breakaway down the right wing.

Colin Miller put the Monarchs on the board at 18:30 in the second when he scored a power-play goal on a one-timer from Jeff Schultz. It was his sixth goal of the season, most on the club among defensemen.

The Monarchs return to the ice on December 5 when they travel to Portland for a 7 p.m. game against the Pirates. They will play back-to-back nights against Norfolk at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Dec. 6-7.

Notes:

Tonight was Manchester's first loss in regulation since November 7 against Lehigh Valley. The Monarchs fell to 6-2-1-0 on the road this season. Manchester had only allowed four or more goals on three other occasions prior to tonight (last, 11/21 at Binghamton).
