Jarry, Oil Kings Shut Down Giants

Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
EDMONTON, ALTA. - No action, no problem for Tristan Jarry.
The Edmonton Oil Kings netminder, who hadn't played for three straight games, showed little rust Friday night, making 35 saves for his second shutout of the season as Edmonton (14-10-2-2) downed the Vancouver Giants (9-18-0-0) 3-0 at Rexall Place.
"It gave me time to have a little break, and that helped me a lot," Jarry said.
"Something we always pride ourselves on is having a low goals-against in the league, and that's something we want to continue."
Jarry showed no signs of rust after not playing for a week as he came out as Edmonton's best player, making 14 stops in the first period and being a big part of why the Oil Kings penalty kill was a perfect 6-6 against the Giants, including killing off a 1:46 five-on-three opportunity in the game's final minutes. "He was our best penalty killer in that situation," said Oil Kings head coach Steve Hamilton. "That was a hard-working team we faced tonight. We scuffled a little bit, but we found a way to lock it down."
It was the 16th shutout of Jarry's career, moving him to a tie for 11th on the WHL's all-time list, 10 behind all-time leader Tyson Sexsmith.
Brandon Baddock and Aaron Irving each tallied power-play goals and added an assist as the Oil Kings went 2-4 with the man advantage.
"The power play wasn't pretty today, but it was effective, and that's something we'll take as a difference maker," Hamilton said.
Ashton Sautner added a goal to run his point streak to nine games, the longest streak by a defenceman in modern Oil Kings franchise history. Brandon Baddock ran his point streak to five games, and has goals in each of the last three.
Cody Porter made 26 saves in a losing effort for Vancouver.
The Oil Kings will get right back to action Saturday night as they pay a visit to the Medicine Hat Tigers. The game will wrap up an eight-games-in-12-days stretch for Edmonton.
