TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (10-6-0-2) face the Colorado Eagles (9-5-0-0) in the second match of the current three-game set between these two clubs. The Reign are currently 4-3-0-0 on their season-high nine-game road trip; a single standings point earned tonight guarantees the team will finish with at least a .500 win percentage over the course of the road trip.
REGISTER COMES ALIVE:
After returning from training camp from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, defenseman Matt Register had done an excellent drop racking points via the assist column, but the blueliner exploded in a big way on Wednesday, lighting the lamp twice for his first two goals of the season. His second goal ended up also being the game-winner, and vaulted him atop the scoring lead amongst ECHL defenders. Should Register play tonight, it will represent his 100th career game with the organization.
OUT SHOOTING OPPONENTS:
After allowing 34 or more shots over the previous three games, Ontario kept the Eagles to just 30 shots on goal on Wednesday, while also managing to post 31 shots on goal as well. This was the sixth time that the Reign have managed to outshoot their opponents this season, and the team sports a 4-2-0-0 record under those conditions.
SPURGEON CONTINUES HIS HOT STREAK:
Tyler Spurgeon's assist on Wednesday extends his point streak to four games (1g-3a), which matches a previous point streak at the start of the season (Oct. 17 - Nov. 14).
REIGNS HANDED TO OLKINUORA:
With Joe Cannata's recent call-up to the Utica Comets earlier in the week, Jussi Olkinuora was forced to start back-to-back games for the first times this season, and he did not disappoint. The netminder picked up his second straight victory, making 27 saves, including nine in the third period that allowed Ontario to match its season-high mark of three consecutive wins.
