SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs have signed goaltender Alex Bishop.
The 17-year-old, listed at 6'4" and 203 lbs., began the season with the Hamilton Red Wings (Jr. A) of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), posting a 4-8 record, a 4.23 goals-against average and a .890 save percentage.
In 2013-14, the Richmond Hill, Ontario, native played 19 games for the Vaughan Kings Midget AAA of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), registering a 1.95 goals against average. He was named a GTHL all-star. He also played two games with the Newmarket Hurricanes of the OJHL.
"We've added another young goaltender with the potential to be a starter in the QMJHL," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "We like his size, his battle level in the net, and his calm nature while under pressure. We are excited about bringing another quality goaltender to our organization and increasing our depth."
He is expected to join the team in time for their game Friday, November 28th, against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada at Harbour Station.
