Rockets Defeat Americans 4-1

Kennewick, WA- After handing the Kelowna Rockets (22-2-3-0, 47 pts) its first regulation loss at the Toyota Center more than a month ago, the Rockets returned and handed the Tri-City Americans (14-11-0-0, 28 pts) a 4-1 loss in front of 3,321 fans on Wednesday night.

Kelowna set the pace early and controlled the puck for much of the first period. Kelowna had two chances on the man advantage, including a four minute minor penalty, but the Americans killed off both power plays. Kelowna outshot Tri-City 13-6 in the period. Both goalies were strong in the first period as the game was scoreless going into the second period.

The Americans tried to get something going in the second period, but the Rockets continued to push forward and have more opportunities. Kelowna finally broke through 14:56 into the second, as Rourke Chartier slapped a loose puck in front of the net past Eric Comrie to put the Rockets ahead 1-0. Tri-City answered with a goal of its own with less than a minute remaining in the second. The Rockets had the shot advantage in the second, 15-9, as the game was tied heading into the third period.

In the third, the Rockets quickly retook the lead, as Chartier netted his second goal of the game to make it 2-1 Kelowna. Midway through the third, Tyson Baillie was able to score as he put home a rebound to increase the lead to 3-1. Kelowna put the icing on the win less than two minutes later as Tyrell Goulbourne scored a shorthanded goal to make it 4-1. The Americans outshot the Rockets 12-6 in the third, but it wasn't enough as the Rockets left the Toyota Center with the win.

Tri-City has lost a season-high two straight home games and has lost two straight against Kelowna.

The Americans were 1-for-3 on the power play tonight with 12 penalty minutes while Kelowna couldn't convert any of its six power play chances to go along with six penalty minutes.

Tri-City's Eric Comrie stopped 30 shots in the loss while Jackson Whistle made 26 saves in the win.

Tri-City will have Thanksgiving off, but will be back at the Toyota Center this Friday, Nov. 28, taking on the Lethbridge Hurricanes (6-15-3-1, 16 pts) at 7:05 p.m. in the lone meeting between the teams this season. The Americans have won six straight meetings against the Hurricanes, and haven't lost to the Hurricanes at home since 1999.
