B-Sens Surrender Lead, Fall in Shootout
November 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Despite holding a 3-0 lead entering the final period of regulation, the Binghamton Senators fell 4-3 in the shootout to the visiting St. John's IceCaps. The IceCaps notched three unanswered goals within the opening eight minutes of the third before taking the bonus point in the six-round shootout.
Shane Prince opened the scoring 12:30 into the first with his first of two goals for the night. Garrett Thompson found Carter Camper at the top of the left faceoff dot who drew the IceCaps defense to him before sending a cross-ice feed to Prince. Prince took the feed and buried the puck into a half-open goal mouth for his fifth score of the season. Binghamton took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission with Scott Greenham stopping all seven of St. John's shots in the opening 20 minutes.
Prince made it 2-0 Binghamton just shy of the eight minute mark of the second period off another great feed from Camper. Less than three minutes later, Chris Wideman notched his 11th goal of the year, tying him for the league lead, to make it 3-0. Greenham continued his strong play stopping all 13 of the IceCaps shots in the second.
St. John's scored 2:34 into the final frame to cut the lead to 3-1. Following the goal, the Binghamton bench was issued a minor for unsportsmanlike giving St. John's a power-play chance. The IceCaps man advantage made it a one-goal game less than five minutes into the third before Chase Balisy recorded the equalizer at 7:52 to force overtime.
After a high-paced scoreless overtime period, the shootout was won by St. John's via a sixth round shootout goal by Kyle MacKinnon. Greenham was dealt his first loss of the year after allowing three goals on 32 shots faced while Connor Hellebuyck earned the victory with 42 saves.
Binghamton returns to action Friday, November 28, when they visit the Syracuse Crunch for a 7:00p.m. matchup. The B-Sens will be back on home ice the following night when they host the Rochester Americans at 7:05p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in 9:00a.m.-5:30p.m. Monday through Friday.
