MASL Weekly - Week 5

November 26, 2014 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) News Release

San Diego, Rochester Fall from Ranks of Unbeaten

11/26/14 - Just three undefeated teams remain after the San Diego Sockers were bested by the Las Vegas Legends 9-7 on Sunday and the Rochester Lancers were topped by the Ontario Fury 15-13 in overtime Saturday.

The Monterrey Flash (5-0), Missouri Comets (4-0), and Baltimore Blast (3-0) each won blowout decisions by a combined 37-5 goal tally over the Wichita B-52s, Hidalgo La Fiera, and Harrisburg Heat, respectively.

All three teams will look to extend their hot starts on the road this weekend. Monterrey heads to Saltillo, Missouri heads east to Harrisburg, and Baltimore heads north to Syracuse.

Team of the Week

GK - Bryan O'Quinn, Syracuse Silver Knights - O'Quinn backstopped the Silver Knights to their first win of the season, coming just an own goal away from a shutout.

D - Brian Harris, Missouri Comets - Harris earned his second straight appearance on the Team of the Week with a four goal outburst while helping hold Wichita to just three goals.

D - Victor Quiroz, Milwaukee Wave - The veteran defender was pressed into action as an emergency goalkeeper after Marcel Feenstra tore his ACL in the third quarter of Saturday's game in Detroit. He manned the nets for the final 24 minutes and completed Feenstra's shutout in a 4-0 win.

M - Kenardo Forbes, Syracuse Silver Knights - Forbes had a breakout season for Syracuse last year. The 26 year old Jamaican missed the season opener with an injury but returned Friday to score three goals and an assist in a win against Ontario.

F - Tiguinho Dias, Ontario Fury - Tiguinho and his Fury teammates were having a quiet weekend with only three goals in six quarters in Syracuse and Rochester. Things can turn in an instant in arena soccer. Tiguinho scored five goals in a 21 minute span -- accounting for all of Ontario's second half scoring -- including the overtime game-winner to rally the Fury to a weekend split.

F - Lucas Totti, Oxford City FC of Texas - Totti is an MASL rookie who made a name in futsal in Europe and leads Oxford City in scoring including seven goals in his last two games. His four goal game against Saltillo gave him 10 on the season, one more than 2013/14 team leader David Molloy had the entire season.

Please Don't Take Offense

The MASL is still averaging a robust 14.02 goals per game this year, but there have been three shutouts. Detroit, now a victim of two whitewashes, lost 4-0 to Milwaukee Saturday tying the lowest total goal count in a league game. On Sunday, the Dallas Sidekicks beat Wichita 3-2 in overtime marking the lowest scoring overtime game in league history.
