Last Chance to Go Indoor Skydiving with Wendell Young

November 25, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release

When the Chicago Wolves host the Rockford IceHogs at 7 p.m. Saturday, it marks the final opportunity to win an auction to go indoor skydiving at iFLY in Rosemont with Wolves general manager Wendell Young.

Fans should visit the Customer Service Booth in Allstate Arena's Southeast Lobby to participate in the auction, which grants the winner and a guest the chance to skydive indoors at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec., 11, at iFLY in Rosemont. In addition to Young, Wolves defensemen David Shields and Jake Chelios and forward Philip McRae will participate in the event. Auction proceeds benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago and Chicago Wolves Charities.

"I've never done indoor skydiving, but I'm looking forward to it," Young said. "Our head coach, John Anderson, has done it and he loved it, so it should be fun for me and everyone else. It's a great chance to raise money and awareness for the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago."

Wendell and Paula Young's older son, Matthew, was diagnosed with epilepsy in the summer of 2013 when he was 22. Before the family had any inkling Matthew might have a health issue, he suffered 40 to 50 partial-complex seizures followed by two grand mal seizures while vacationing in Canada. In conjunction with National Epilepsy Awareness Month -- and armed with the knowledge that 1 in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy -- the Young family and the Chicago Wolves are broadening the conversation about this condition and raising funds to cure it.

The Wolves gave away 2,500 commemorative Wendell Young T-shirts on Nov. 22 as part of Epilepsy Awareness Night, presented by Heidenhain. A limited number of these purple T-shirts are still available. Fans who want to support Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago and Chicago Wolves Charities can buy a Young T-shirt for $20 at Saturday's game. They also can contact Wolves senior vice president of operations Courtney Mahoney at (847) 832-1950 or cbmahoney@chicagowolves.com to arrange a purchase.
