Prospect League Announces 2015 Schedule

November 25, 2014 - Prospect League (Prospect) News Release

The summer home of collegiate baseball's most elite players, The Prospect League, has released its 2015 schedule. Once again, it is a 60-game schedule for the Midwestern summer collegiate wood bat league, opening on Wednesday, May 27.

"Coaches have told our field managers and teams that sixty games is the right length of season. With our 28-man roster, we carry enough pitchers to work that number of games safely, and hitters always want another at-bat," said Bryan Wickline, Commissioner of the Prospect League. "We pride ourselves on developing our players and accomplishing the mission given to us by the college coaches."

The schedule is comprised mostly of two-game series, with limited travel crossover into the other division. Designed to give a player a taste of what minor league baseball is going to be like, the teams travel by charter bus with numerous overnight series in opponent' cities. It provides a realistic experience, playing 60 games in 72 days in great venues and in front of enthusiastic crowds.

2015 sees a couple of milestones for the Prospect League. The Prospect League has a unique opportunity to continue to provide baseball in a community that was part of the minor league New York-Penn circuit previously. Jamestown, New York will be a new location this year, replacing Lorain, Ohio. Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi said, his baseball committee made the "relatively easy decision" to bring in the Prospect League. "I and the group were completely on the same page with this,'' Teresi said.

The city of Kokomo, Indiana will become the 12th team in the league, and will play in a brand new multi-million dollar baseball stadium. "The Kokomo Jackrabbits playing Prospect League baseball enhances Kokomo's identity throughout the state and Midwest," said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. "The name Jackrabbits is a tribute to our automotive heritage, and the team and stadium are part of Kokomo's aim to attract people to fuel the future of our city." The Kokomo Jackrabbits are owned by Milwaukee's Mike Zimmerman, whom shares the Kokomo community's vision for high-quality summer baseball in the new downtown facility.

The 2015 Prospect League All-Star Game will begin with events on Tuesday, July 7 and conclude with the All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 8 at Richmond's John Cate Field at McBride Stadium.

The 2015 playoffs will begin on Friday, August 7.
