Eric Schierhorn Claims USHL's "Reebok Goaltender of the Week" Honors

MUSKEGON, Michigan (November 24th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that Goaltender Eric Schierhorn has been named by the United States Hockey League (USHL) as the league's "Reebok Goaltender of the Week" earning the weekly honors for the second time this season and fourth time overall in now his second full USHL season.

Schierhorn, Anchorage, Alaska native, earns the recognition after posting a pair of home victories over the weekend on Friday and Sunday against the Waterloo Black Hawks and Bloomington Thunder, respectively. On Friday, Schierhorn recorded his third career USHL shutout and second on the season stopping all 42 shots that came his way in a 3-0 win over the Black Hawks. Two nights later, Schierhorn compiled a 32-save effort in a 4-3 victory against the Thunder to claim his seventh home victory of the season. In addition, Schierhorn posted a solid 1.50 goals-against and a .963 save percentage to complete the successful two-game home weekend.

"I felt good throughout the weekend as the defensive core did another good job of eliminating the high-quality scoring changes and keeping the majority of the shots on goal along the perimeter while clearing out the traffic and rebound opportunities in front of me," said Schierhorn. "Our home success so far this season is due in part to the guys putting in that extra drive to put forth a good effort and showing in front of our home fans, and hopefully, we can continue that trend going forward."

This season, Schierhorn has totaled an 11-3-1 record with his 11 victories coming in a tie for second among all USHL netminders. Also, Schierhorn currently ranks in the top ten of every other major statistical category for goaltenders including shutouts (tied for first with two), goals-against average (seventh at 2.55), save percentage (third at .922), and overall saves (first with 439). In his USHL career, Schierhorn has compiled a 31-22-2 record to go along with a 3.11 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage, and three shutouts.

In late October, Schierhorn claimed his first "Goaltender of the Week" recognition for the 2014-15 season following his two-game home performance against the Green Bay Gamblers on October 24th and 25th.
