Fronk, Willett, and Schierhorn Earn Weekly USHL Honors

The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM Hockey player awards for the ninth week of the 2014-15 USHL regular season.

Winners include Jiri Fronk of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, recognized as CCM Forward of the Week; Daniel Willett of the Madison Capitols, chosen as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Eric Schierhorn of the Muskegon Lumberjacks, selected as CCM Goaltender of the Week.

Jiri Fronk, F, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders: The forward totaled five points (4g, 1a) over two games to lead the RoughRiders to a weekend sweep of Team USA. He scored two goals in a span of 4:27 during the second period of Friday's 6-0 victory. The 20-year-old followed up with two more tallies in Saturday's 4-2 win. It was his third multi-goal effort over his last four contests, and he now leads the USHL with 15 goals over 17 games this season. Fronk is currently tied for second in League scoring with 22 points (15g, 7a) as he has produced at least one point in 13 of the 17 games for the RoughRiders this season. He also ranks fourth overall in the USHL with a plus-12 rating. It is the first season of playing hockey in North America for the native of Louny, Czech Republic.

Daniel Willett, D, Madison Capitols: The defenseman recorded three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-two rating in helping the Capitols earn a two-game sweep over the Green Bay Gamblers. He scored a goal and dished out an assist on Friday before playing the hero by converting the shootout-winner in the 5-4 victory. The 18-year-old followed up with an assist in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory. Willett has recorded six points (2g, 4a) and a plus-three rating over 10 games since being acquired by Madison earlier in the season from Muskegon. Over his USHL career, he has also converted 6-of-9 shootout attempts. The Bayville, New York native is playing his third season in the USHL and is a product of the New Jersey Rockets and Long Island Gulls organizations.

Eric Schierhorn, G, Muskegon Lumberjacks: The 18-year-old posted a 1.50 goals-against-average and .961 save percentage in leading the Lumberjacks to a pair of weekend victories. He stopped all 42 shots he faced in Friday's 3-0 win against the Waterloo Black Hawks to record his second shutout of the season. It was also his 30th USHL career victory. He followed up with a 32-save effort in the 4-3 win over the Bloomington Thunder on Sunday, extending his winning streak to four games. During his current win streak, he has posted a 1.47 GAA and .961 SV%. The Anchorage, Alaska native is tied for second among USHL goaltenders with 11 wins and ranks third with a .922 SV%. A prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft, he is a product of the Russell Stover youth hockey organization.
