Knights' Mitch Marner Named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

November 24, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that 2015 NHL Draft prospect Mitch Marner of the London Knights is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 23 after scoring seven goals and three assists for 10 points with a plus-minus rating of plus-2 in two games played.

Marner earns the award for the second time this season with a pair of five-point performances helping the Knights win twice last week improving their record to 15-8-0-0 where they stand tied for second place in the OHL's Midwest Division with 30 points. Marner was named first star in both contests establishing career-highs with both five-point efforts. On Friday night he scored a career-high four goals and added one assist in a 6-3 home win over the Mississauga Steelheads, then collected his fourth hat-trick of the season along with two assists on Saturday in an 8-2 road win over the Windsor Spitfires.

Marner, a 17-year-old from Thornhill, ON, is playing in his second career OHL season with the Knights. Originally chosen in the first round of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Marner is a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Draft and was one of eight OHL players identified as a first round candidate in NHL Central Scouting's November 'Players to Watch' list released last week. Marner is currently fourth in OHL scoring with 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 23 games and was part of Team OHL's 5-1 win over Russia in the SUBWAY Super Series last Monday night in Kingston.
