Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Kamloops Blazers (11-10-3-2) earned a point in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Spokane Chiefs (12-7-3-0) on Sunday night.
The Blazers were behind the eight-ball early as they were tagged with four penalties in the first period.
The penalty kill was solid on the night as the Blazers killed off all four penalties in a scoreless first period.
Connor Ingram was forced to stop 18 shots as the Chiefs outshot the Blazers 18-5 in the first period.
The Blazers seemed a step behind most of the night in an average second period. The Chiefs got on the scoreboard first as Liam Stewart fired a quick shot up and over Ingram off a faceoff to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.
Cole Ully replied for the Blazers with a goal late in the period. He found his own rebound and put a shot past goaltender Garrett Hughson to make it a 1-1 tie through two periods.
In the third period the Blazers were better as shots were tied 9-9. The Blazers again were forced to kill off two penalties, including one with 2:03 to go in the game to send it to overtime.
14 seconds into overtime Kailer Yamamoto found a loose puck in the slot and beat a sprawling Connor Ingram to give the Chiefs a 2-1 win.
The Blazers did not get a power play on the night, while the Chiefs had six as they were 0-for-6 on the power play.
Connor Ingram made 39 saves in goal for the Blazers, while Garrett Hughson stopped 18 shots for the Chiefs.
