Wheeling Nailers News Release

ELMIRA, NY- Eric Hartzell has dominated the Elmira Jackals during his first two ECHL seasons, as he entered Sunday afternoon with a 6-0-0 head-to-head record. Thanks to a pair of goals by Derek Army, Hartzell added another win to that tally, as he blocked away all 38 shots he faced, giving the Wheeling Nailers a 2-0 win at First Arena.

The Nailers netted the lone goal during the first period, taking the lead at the 11:28 mark of the stanza. Matia Marcantuoni won the puck out of the corner for Chaz Johnson at the left side of the net. Johnson tapped a pass into the crease for Derek Army, who finished off the play for his third goal of the season.

From that point on, the story of the game was the goaltenders, as Eric Hartzell and Sam Marotta matched each other save for save. One of Hartzell's most impressive stops came during the first period, when he gloved a quality scoring chance by Mike Seidel from low in the slot.

Derek Army ended up finishing the same scoring that he started, when he tacked on an empty net goal from the right side of center ice. Nick D'Agostino and Clark Seymour picked up the assists, clinching the 2-0 triumph for the visiting Nailers.

Eric Hartzell was perfect on 38 shots, earning his first shutout and second victory of the season for Wheeling. Sam Marotta was almost as good for Elmira, but was solved once on 25 shots, taking the loss.

The Nailers will begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday night at 7:05, when they take on the Greenville Road Warriors.
