Forward Andrew Cherniwchan Returns to the Lowcountry

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, agreed to terms with forward Andrew Cherniwchan, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Cherniwchan, 25, spent parts of the last three seasons with the Stingrays totaling 44 points (22 goals, 22 assists) in 72 contests before jumping to the American Hockey League (AHL). The Hinton, Alberta, native started this season with the Springfield Falcons (AHL) grabbing three points (two goals, one assist) in 12 contests under the direction of former Stingrays Head Coach and Hall of Famer Jared Bednar. After picking up 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) through 17 games with the Stingrays early last season, Cherniwchan earned his first AHL promotion to the Providence Bruins grabbing nine points (four goals, five assists) in 30 games and helped the Bruins in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs registering three points (one goal, two assists) in 12 matchups.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward completed a four-year collegiate career at Northern Michigan University adding 84 points (35 goals, 49 assists) in 146 games.
