November 22, 2014 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Dayton Demonz News Release

(Dayton, Ohio) The Dayton Demonz and the Berkshire Battalion met each other for the first time on Saturday night, as Berkshire is new to the Federal Hockey League this season. Dayton would look to the leadership and skills of Ahmed Mahfouz for a victory, which was back in the lineup after serving a seven game suspension. Dayton's last game, against the Danville Dashers, was a hard fought but disappointing loss. Dayton would look to pick up their efforts to pull out a victory against a hardworking opponent.

Berkshire stole a victory on Dayton's home ice Saturday with a final score of 4-3. Berkshire's goaltending and penalty killing unit were strong enough to give them the victory in these two teams first ever meeting. Dayton generated heavy offensive pressure and put up 45 shots on net, but it was not enough this evening.

Dayton took control of the game very early in the first period, giving Berkshire's net minder a workout with a flurry of shots on net. The Demonz would find the back of the net with a rebound shot coming from August Aiken, quickly followed by a goal from Dustin Skinner to increase the lead to 2-0. Dayton would double their opponent's shots on net but Berkshire would take advantage of the few scoring chances they had and score off a deflection from Matthew Rosebrook. Michael Doleman would deposit a shot past the goaltender for the Battalions, making the score 2-2 going into the first intermission.

Both teams traded opportunities to get on the board throughout the second period. The Demonz had multiple chances to take the lead on four power plays but Berkshire was able to kill off all four chances. Berkshire's intensity increased as they generated more chances to score than they were able to in the first period, the second period would end tied 2-2.

The tides seemed to change in favor of Berkshire in the third period. The Battalions would generate a turnover that led to a breakaway goal coming off the stick of Tristan Lysko, giving them a 3-2 lead halfway through the final period. Martin Uhnak would add to the Battalion lead with a late third period goal, increasing the lead to 4-2. The Demonz would cut into the lead with just minutes left in the game thanks to the stick of Brian Marks but it would be too little too late as the buzzer sounded ending the game with a score of 4-3 in favor of Berkshire.

The Demonz have some soul searching to do, as they find themselves in a losing streak and unchartered water. Next week will have the team playing on the road; this may be the best medicine for the team as it will give them the opportunity to bond off the ice which hopefully will translate to stronger team chemistry on the ice.
