K-Wings start road swing with a loss

FORT WAYNE- The Kalamazoo Wings started a brief two-game road trip Friday night with a 3-1 loss to the Fort Wayne Komets.
Joel Martin got the K-Wings through a sluggish first period. Keeping the Komets at bay with highlight reel goaltending, Martin made 18 of his 35 saves for the game in the opening 20 minutes.
Continuing to generate scoring chances in the second period, Fort Wayne finally broke through with a pair of goals. Sneaking past the K-Wings defense, Mike Embach (5th) put the Komets in front with a breakaway tally 3:59 into the period. Minutes later Fort Wayne's lead was pushed to 2-0 when Eric Faille scored on a Cody Sol rebound.
While on a power-play Kalamazoo cut the deficit in half midway in the third period. Skating to the middle of the blue line, Jeremie Blain (2nd) lifted a slap shot over the shoulder of Pat Nagle for the K-Wings lone goal of the game.
Nathan Condon (3rd) concluded the scoring by tacking on an empty-net with 1.7 seconds remaining.
Kalamazoo will conclude a brief two-game road swing tomorrow, Saturday, November 22nd with a 7:35 p.m. encounter against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
The K-Wings will return to Wings Stadium on Friday, November 28th with a special 5 p.m. Black Friday game face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets on 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun, featuring $3 beers, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs courtesy of Winter's Sausage.
Between now and Wednesday, December 10th fans that come to any K-Wings home game can register to win two tickets to the Detroit Red Wings game on December 16th versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. The prize also includes a special meet and greet after the game in the Olympia Club.
