Sound Tigers Drop Second Straight

Bridgeport Islanders News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - A three-goal first period powered the Springfield Falcons past the Sound Tigers 5-2 on Friday night at MassMutual Center.

Kerby Rychel opened the scoring just 1:27 into the game. Much like last weekend, it was Rychel hooking up with Dana Tyrell, this time with Tyrell dishing out a beautiful pass that Rychel slammed home. It was Rychel's fifth of the season and fourth point against the Sound Tigers in two games.

With just over three minutes left in the period, Springfield's Sean Collins was slashed on a breakaway and the Falcons were awarded a penalty shot. Collins took the shot himself and tucked it five-hole on Kevin Poulin to give Springfield a 2-0 lead.

The scoring wasn't done there, however. After yet another Sound Tigers penalty, the Falcons converted with just over a minute left in the first period. Again, it was Rychel finding the back of the net to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

The Sound Tigers replaced Poulin at the start of the second period, bringing in David Leggio to try and change the complexion of the game. Bridgeport did find themselves on a five-minute power play at the start of the second after a boarding call against Tyrell, and even had a minute-plus five-on-three, but could not convert.

Midway through the second, the Falcons earned their second penalty shot of the game as Kevin Czuczman slashed Rychel on a breakaway. Leggio stoned Rychel on the penalty shot and kept the game at 3-0.

The Sound Tigers did get one back, as Ryan Pulock fired a shot from the point on the power play to cut Springfield's lead to 3-1. Griffin Reinhart and Kael Mouillierat notched assists on Pulock's team-leading seventh goal of the season. Pulock scored the only other goal of the game for the Sound Tigers.

The Falcons scored twice more in the third, adding some insurance to their already commanding lead. Rychel finished the game with two goals and an assist while Tyrell had three assists and Michael Chaput added a goal and two assists. Pulock's second goal finished the scoring at 5-2.

Poulin finished with 15 saves after his period of play. Leggio closed out the game making 19 saves. The Falcons outshot the Sound Tigers 39-25 in the contest.

Notes: This is the first time this season the Sound Tigers have lost two games in a row...Ryan Pulock now has a four-game goal scoring streak...David Leggio played 40 minutes in net despite not starting the game...The Sound Tigers have allowed three penalty shots this year, all to the Springfield Falcons.
